TWENTY-SEVENTH
SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME
.FROM THE PASTOR’S DESK
At the beginning of the year representatives from our
parish were selected to work
together with other parish representatives
in our Camden City Deanery. Their
purpose was to
propose recommendations for the
reconfiguration of the Churches in the City.
The
recommendation for St. Joe’s Polish was
“One Priest – One Parish” Model. This
was submitted to
the
Diocesan Planning Commission (DPC) in May for approval/suggestions. The DPC did not
affirm this recommendation.
Their observations and
suggestions were the following:
1.
“How does the
recommended staffing plan serve to initiate or support the 6 pastoral
priorities of the Diocese?
2.
With only a small number
(105) persons attending Mass each weekend, it will not be possible to assign a
full time pastor to St. Joe’s. With
what other parishes could St. Joe’s most effectively merge or cluster
with? (Provide data for your answer)
3.
Without ongoing
ministries or outreach to neighbors in Camden City, are all of the parish resources
absorbed by building repairs and maintenance?
(Provide a narrative of the parish
life of St. Joe’s and its outreach ministries)
4.
Could the small community
of Polish-American Catholics of the area be hosted for liturgical celebrations
in a neighboring parish? (If so, what would be your recommendation as
to a location?)”
Given this feedback from the DPC, it is now up to all
the planning committees from the Churches in
the City of Camden to develop responses to these
observations and questions about St. Joe’s Parish
as well as the other parishes in the City in several Deanery
meetings between now and January.
The deadline for the reconsidered recommendation for St. Joe’s
and the other churches in Camden
City is January 28, 2008.
NB: The recommendations
for the other Churches in Camden City were also rejected.
