SEVENTEENTH SUNDAY IN ORDINERY
TIME
FROM THE PASTOR’S DESK
Our
two parables told by Jesus in today’s Gospel are reminders that God’s love and
care
exceeds even the closest of our human
associations. The first is a story
about a friend so
trustworthy that one can go to him in a
necessity. But if the friend is not
ready to help, he will
respond because the friend in need will
not give up but continue persistently.
The second parable is about a
relationship between a father and son.
We know that a
good father will give his child only good
things. Now our Father in heaven will
give us not only
good things, but the greatest gift he can
give – the Holy Spirit.
The
lessons of these two parables can be summed up like this: that God is always
present
for those who know how much they need
him. And the more we know that we need
God, who is
our Father, the more he is there for us.
