THE EPIPHANY OF THE LORD
EPIPHANY TRADITION
As we celebrate the Feast of the Epiphany, it is customary to bless your
homes and apartments with the blessing of the Three Wise Men. After sprinkling the rooms of your house with
holy water, pray these or similar words:
“May God bless this house and all
who live here and all who enter within these walls throughout this New Year.” Then mark with blessed chalk the top
of the main doors (front & back) of your home with the inscription:
20 + K + M + B + 08
This symbolizes the
New Year 2008 and the traditional names of the Three Wise Men: Kasper, Melchior and Balthasar, asking them
to give you safe passage to and from your home throughout the New Year.
Envelopes containing
blessed incense and blessed chalk for this Epiphany Tradition are available in the
Sanctuary.

St. Joseph’s Fund Raising Appeal – thus far we’ve collected $659,062.05 in pledges and cash
donations from 888 donors. The beautiful memorial Restoration Plaque
listing the names of people donating $1000 or more on “in loving memory” of
some one is now in place on the Mechanic Street side wall. Only a few empty spots still remain on our
plaque.
Rosary Society – The annual Wafer Luncheon (Opłatkowa
Kolacja) will be held today at 12
noon.
The History Society is offering a new CD, “Christmas at St.
Joseph’s Church”, a live recording of last year’s Midnight Mass concert. The price is $20. Net income will be used for preservation and restoration of
activities of St. Joseph’s. The recordings will be available after all
the weekend Masses.
