The ailing 82-year old pontiff has canceled his January 2003 journey to the Philippines, a church official said Monday Aug. 26, 2002. The pontiff was considering a trip to attend the World Meeting of Families, an international religious conference held every three years. The 2003 session will be held Jan. 22-26 in Manila, the first time that Asia has hosted the event.
